Quadrille ruled /
Russians like quadrille ruled paper. We use it for all science topics, which are half of the topics in college. Thus, the selection of quadrille ruled notebooks is the same as the selection of college ruled ones. Physicists tend to use quadrille ruled paper all the time. You may call it a principle. In Russia it is not a big deal.

But this is a big deal in USA. You guys use quad paper only for labs and plots. Thus, MSU bookstore has the following poor selection: (1) cheap lab notebooks: 4 squares per inch from one side and college ruled from the other side; (2) - simple lab notebooks: 4 squares per inch from one side (presumably, for computations) and 5 from the other side (presumably, for plots); (3) - expensive (>$10) lab notebooks: 4 or 5 squares per inch from one side, carbon paper from the other side, pages are numbered. Everything else is VERY rare.

So I buy plain quadrille sheets in Staples. Not a notebook, just sheets. On Friday I saw same stuff in MSU bookstore, got happy and bought a lot, for the whole semester. Today I realized, that it is quadrille ruled only from one side, the other one is virgin blank. Whoever banned quad paper, I hate you... I can easily understand people, who buy notebooks in Russia.

I totally agree, in Colombia you can find notebooks with quad paper in all presentations, colors and flavors. I have used only quad paper all my life and here in the US I'm forced to use this horribly boring green with white or black with white lab notebooks that look all the same.

The frustration goes both ways: sometimes I am maddened by the difficulty of finding a notebook that ISN'T quadrille-ruled in Russia. I'm an English teacher, not a physicist, and I don't need graph paper!

We should all go to Colombia where you can find both kinds of paper as easy and in cool notebooks of different styles

Hm, I thought in any bookstore you would find about equal amount of quad and ruled paper. I did not buy ruled paper in the last 10 years, though. Did it change?

We should arrange some exchange my mail. :D
